Illustration of How the US Tax System Works

On April 18, 2012, in Financial Musings, by Jeremy Salvador

Tax season is finally over! For the 47% of America that pays $0 in federal taxes, this is a great time. For the other 53% it’s a time of anger and frustration. With all the talk I’ve been hearing about taxation and how unfair it is, it’s surprising to me just how little people actually know about how the United States tax system works. I know that many aspects are fairly complicated, but the overall concept is simple. So I thought I’d give a little illustration of how the tax system in the US works:

Landed an SEO Consulting Gig!

On April 17, 2012, in Personal, by Jeremy Salvador

This morning I finalized a consulting agreement and landed a $3,000 retainer. I used to build websites and run SEO services while I was in college to help pay for various expenses. So this field isn’t foreign to me. Since starting my professional career as a forensic accountant, I’ve only done SEO for myself and the various web properties that I’ve built. This is my first SEO gig since my college days.

Another Big Payment to the Student Loan 4

On April 16, 2012, in Total Money Makeover, by Jeremy Salvador

Today we made another big payment to our last and final consumer loan. We’re alomst 6 months and 24 days into our Total Money Makeover we’ve been pretty consistent with keeping the momentum up. So when my paycheck hit our bank account this weekend we decided to suck it up and make a big payment to Student Loan 4.

We started this month with an outstanding balance on this loan of $6,508.64 Not a whole lot by some people’s standards, but remember that when we got married we had almost $50,000 in debt and when we started our Total Money Makeover we had almost $40,000 of debt. So this $3,000 payment hurt a little bit, but it’s exciting to see how far we’ve come and how much closer we are to accomplishing our goal of being debt free.

If you ask these type of people, “Where are you going?” They answer, “I don’t know.” Then how will you know when you get there?

Besides its common use as the entrance to a house or building, the word “door” is used metaphorically as the entrance to anything…

Burden of Riches

On April 7, 2012, in Spiritual Lessons, by Jeremy Salvador

A businessman once overtook another man trudging through the snow, humming to himself. The businessman talked with him briefly and found that he was very poor. Finally he asked him if he didn’t think he’d be happier if he were rich. “No, Boss, all the rich men I work for never laugh.”
